Resolved Question: Housing near Rosemead and Pasadena CA?

I am new to the SoCal area and is looking for an appartment to live. I am a graduate student and my job requires me to travel to both around Pasadena and Rosemead area. Which area should I be looking that is relatively safe and inexpensive. I found Pasadena to be too expensive for a student and have found some good prices around Highland Park. Is this a good place?
